Just yesterday, a student came by my office, and asked a very simple question, “So, Professor Foote, where am I supposed to get a job? Everybody is filing for bankruptcy?” He couldn’t have asked a more pertinent question. My answer: There are jobs, but you’re going to have to dig that much harder and be willing to work in places in may have never considered before or for media you may have never considered ‘media’.
Just as finished my sentence, the student followed up to say that he did have an offer to work in Kodiak, Alaska – and he was seriously considering it. He knew the terrain rom having spent time in Anchorage earlier in his life. Was that his first choice? Hardly. Was he considering it as a serious option. Yes, with hopes that he’d find something within the continental 48 states. In fact, he was on hist way to talk to a publisher who is running a completely internet-based local website –
